One of the darlings of the Wii library, Donkey Kong Country Returnshas been given a second life on the Nintendo 3DS. With some new levels – and a new mode to help lessen the harsh difficulty level – DK and Diddy triumphantly return in an expertly crafted platformer that’s more fun than a barrel of… ya know. The story progresses by way of amusing cutscenes, which tell the mostly nonsensica... more.
  • Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move

Nintendo’s built its reputation on the strength of its incredibly original games, but every once in a while it gets lazy and just puts out a clone. Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move is the latest example, as it starts out as simply a Nintendo-fied version of the old-school puzzler Pipe Mania. There’s definitely fun to be found in the moments when it charts its own course, and the signat... more.
  • Paper Titans

Even compared to the fancy Unreal-powered competition, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a mobile game quite as pretty as Paper Titans. But it's more than just a pretty face; there's actually a very competent puzzle game under all those impressive paper graphics. It may have an occasionally bothersome camera and an unfortunate lens filter, but it’s competent and impressive all the same. You'll b... more.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger's arcade-style shooting is wonderfully thrilling, fast-paced fun. The Good Tight, accurate shooting Compelling combo mechanic Weapons have a satisfying heft and sound to them Well-designed levels Tense quick-draw duels. The Bad Gatling gun boss battles are shallow and frustrating Predictable ending. Call ... more.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth flipped tower defense on its head in 2011 with its excellent and unique “tower offense” premise. Anomaly 2’s campaign is largely more of the same, but that's OK, because the true star of developer 11 bit’s sequel is its brand-new, fully-fleshed-out asymmetrical multiplayer mode. It’s tense, it’s polished, and I’ve never played anything quite like it. A real-... more.

I like the first Sanctum, but I don't love it. I appreciate its bold mixture of first-person gunplay and tower-defense strategy well enough, but after finishing it I found that I had no desire to rematch its mindless enemies, severely limited maps, and numbing repetition even with friends. I loved the idea, but not the execution. Sanctum 2 is different; this sequel takes all those ideas and runs w... more.

In a medium already overrun by zombies, Zoombies manages to stand out from the horde. Its creative zoo setting, animalistic undead, intuitive combat mechanic, and wealth of customization options coalesce to make a frenetic casual time-stealer. Getting everything out of Metro: Last Lightrequires slow and patient play. In a post-apocalyptic adventure that relies a great deal on constant bits of exposition, the experience quickly grows into something much more than just your everyday shooter. The more time you spend exploring, listening, reading, and watching, the more you appreciate what 4A Games has created: an interesting story-driven s... more.
  • Gun Commando

Remember the original Doom and Duke Nukem 3D? Gun Commando does, and it's bringing those early first-person shooter sensibilities back, cheesy alien invasion and all. Its flat but charming graphics, huge selection of weapons, and silly intense music closely mimic that look and feel, but by putting a price tag on every missed shot, it puts a leash around your tap-happy trigger finger and turns simp... more.

Move over, Neo. In about the same span of time it takes to Google the meaning of the word "wushu," I found that I, too, knew kung fu. Unlike The Matrix, however, I spent hours in Age of Wushu's beautiful, semi-sandboxy free-to-play world with only the slightest idea of what to do with that knowledge. A long and arduous journey of discovery later, I found a refreshingly non-traditional MMORPG where... more.
